Posting Details Posting Number: S14519P Working Title: GIS COORDINATOR Department: F&A-University Architects Job Type: External Salary: $75,000‑$85,000+ (commensurate with experience) Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 5 years of professional experience

Master’s degree in Geographic Information Science & Technology
Bachelor’s degree in Geography
Minimum of 10 years of experience maintaining GIS data assets
Demonstrated leadership in managing enterprise GIS systems within a university or similar environment
Position Summary This position manages the university-wide Geographic Information System (GIS) database, collaborates with campus stakeholders on data collection and management, and supports facilities planning through geospatial analysis, mapping, and graphic production. The position also evaluates emerging technologies, software, and platforms to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the campus GIS.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
GIS Database Design & Implementation: Proficient in creating, maintaining, and managing GIS data layers.
Platforms: Extensive experience with ESRI ArcGIS Suite (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcMap), QGIS.
Spatial Data Management: Skilled in PostGIS, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Spatial, ArcSDE, and general data management practices.
Visualization Tools: Competent in Power BI and Tableau for geospatial data visualization.
Geospatial Research & Analysis: Strong understanding of cartographic principles, geodatabase design, LiDAR, remote sensing technologies, and internet-based mapping solutions.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, SQL) for GIS automation and application development; experience with dynamic, web-based GIS mapping solutions.
Software Proficiency: ESRI, Autodesk, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite.
Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and graphic communication skills.
Data Acquisition & Integration: Ability to manage data from diverse sources, including field notes, surveys, construction as‑builts, and remote sensing.
Physical Demands Working 8 hours/day in a normal office environment at a computer. Occasional field work including travel to project locations in Athens or across the state. Stooping, bending, reaching on site visits.

Duties / Responsibilities
Design and implementation of campus GIS / spatial data management system (45%)
Engage in GIS data acquisition, development, and maintenance programs; develop and implement policies and procedures for GIS data acquisition, development, maintenance, and distribution to coordinate and communicate efforts across campus community (45%)
Coordinate and oversee data collection from multiple internal and external stakeholders; monitor, track, and respond to system problems; recommend and coordinate troubleshooting procedures (15%)
Conduct geospatial analysis to support campus planning, design, and documentation efforts; produce GIS‑based maps for OUA project management support and campus departmental support (15%)
Research and monitor new technologies and trends related to GIS / Remote Sensing and other digital mapping solutions; recommend strategies for use of new technologies, products, systems, software; plan upgrades and replacements of existing systems (10%)
Oversee intern and consultant efforts related to GIS data collection, development, maintenance, and map publishing solutions (10%)
Provide GIS technical support, training, and outreach to campus community (5%)
