This is a professional technical position responsible for the design and implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, mapping, quality assurance, analysis and application projects based on specified requirements. Work is performed under the general direction of the GIS Administrator. The position often serves as the technical team lead on GIS projects.

Develops and maintains ArcGIS web maps, applications, and interactive custom dashboards

Performs technical quality review of geospatial information to determine completeness, accuracy, and adherence to specified standards

Efficiently converts data between standard spatial data formats including but not limited to ESRI geodatabase feature classes, spreadsheets, and raster data formats

Queries SQL database environments to extract, modify, and analyze data for use in geospatial maps

Creates, edits, and manages spatial data in SQL Server Enterprise geodatabases, shape files, and tabular formatted data

Communicates with internal and external technical resources to resolve conflicting data issues and provide guidance on best methods to apply results derived from GIS driven data

Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves GIS application or layer complications

Perform related work as required. These additional duties may be representative of tasks typically performed by those in a lesser or more advanced job grade.

This position is part of the City’s Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation.

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in Geography, Surveying, Engineering, Computer Science or related field.

Four (4) years’ experience using ESRI ArcGIS and database related applications; OR

Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of Esri ArcGIS, ArcGIS Enterprise, Microsoft SQL, Python, HTML, and similar systems involving automated mapping software, database software, and related products.

Ability to understand mapping layers, engineering and architectural drawings.

Ability to interpret survey data.

Ability to compile and analyze statistical data and input into databases.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents.

Skilled in creating and maintaining interactive web-based applications.

Ability to travel to training and professional development opportunities, sometimes out of state, required for enhancing skills.
