Type: Full-time, 12-month position.
Description: This position is responsible for assisting with the scheduling and timing of bus routes and drivers. The incumbent will communicate with bus drivers, school officials, and parents regarding school bus route matters and student issues. Duties include maintaining radio contact with drivers, handling routing and bus stop problems, and maintaining transportation records. The work is performed under the general supervision of the School Transportation Director.
Typical Work Activities
Assists in scheduling school bus runs.
Calls substitute drivers as needed and ensures appropriate buses are dispatched.
Assists in handling routing and bus stop problems, complaints, and new students within the district.
Maintains radio contact with drivers.
Maintains transportation records.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet the qualifications for the New York State Civil Service title of School Bus Dispatcher. While specific qualifications may vary, they generally include:

Must pass a civil service examination.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

Working knowledge of computers and office software.
Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
