**JOB CLASS NUMBER:** TRD960**PAY GRADE:** 4**FLSA STATUS:** Non-Exempt**BUSINESS UNIT NAME:** Street Department**REPORTS TO:** Street Supervisor**SUPERVISORY WORK:** Supervises **SUMMARY****ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES*** Excavates asphalt pavement failures or corrections that occur due to utility work in streets, alleys, or other City facilities.* Operates and performs minor maintenance and repair to backhoe excavator.* Operates and maintains other equipment incidental to the job (truck, air compressor and roller).* Calculates material quantities necessary for job completion.* Obtains all supplies necessary for day's work assignment.* Oversees the coning and barricading of the work area.* Rakes asphalt in a prescribed manner.* Properly completes daily job reports.* Supervises utility worker, and on occasion, small work crew.* Operates truck-mounted snow-plow or front-end loader during emergencies.* May operate equipment in other comparable pay categories or be willing to train if necessary.* May be required to do manual work when necessary to assist in the performance of various tasks.* Responds to 24-hour emergency callouts.* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.* This position is subject to 24-hour emergency call out and will be required to carry an after-hours cell phone on a rotational basis.**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**Requires an Eighth-grade education or above and a minimum of four years of experience in the operation of light and medium equipment and trucks, two years of which are on a backhoe excavator.

High School education preferred.

Requires possession of a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver’s License with "N" (tanker) endorsement within 30 days of hire. Knowledge of the mechanical operations of diesel and gas-powered equipment. Sixteen hours of training in Work Zone Traffic Control required within one year of date of hire. **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES** * Ability to integrate well with others.* Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and the public.* Working knowledge of light and medium construction equipment, i.e., dump truck (10 cu.yd.), tractor backhoe (1/2 cu.yd. capacity), and front-end loader up to 2 ½ cu.yd. capacity.* Ability to use 160 CMF Class air compressors, jackhammer attachment and all hand tools.* Ability to drive and work in heavy traffic, constantly exposed to hot asphalt mix or wet concrete.**ADA PROFILE**Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
