Pastry Chef | Location: Salt Lake City, UT 84108
Compensation: $21 per hour DOE| Full-Time
Schedule: Negotiable
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Pastry Chef to prepare high-quality baked goods, including breads, pastries, desserts, and specialty items, in accordance with company standards and client expectations. The Pastry Chef plays a key role in supporting employee dining services, corporate catering, and special events, ensuring consistency, quality, and compliance with food safety regulations.
What You'll Do
Check daily function sheets and prepare items accordingly
Possess basic knife skills
Follow standardized recipes and production schedules to meet demand and minimize waste
Decorate and present baked goods attractively in accordance with client and brand standards
Monitor oven temperatures and baking times, adjusting as necessary for quality outcomes
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bakery station, including equipment, tools, and storage areas
Ensure all baked items meet quality, portion, and presentation standards
Adhere to all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety policies (e.g. HACCP, allergen management)
Assist in inventory management, including receiving and storing bakery supplies and ingredients
Collaborate with kitchen and service teams to ensure smooth food service operations
Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments. Key departmental contacts include sales and marketing, catering, outlets, and maintenance
Participate in menu development and seasonal/holiday item planning
May assist by performing ware washer or other kitchen duties as needed
Perform side-work and any other opening or closing duties as required.
Ensure that production stations are clean and maintained throughout shift
Alert management of any service and/or safety issues
Make appropriate service recovery gestures according to established guidelines to ensure total guest satisfaction

What You Will Bring
Be 18 years or older
Previous baking/pastry making experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen preferred
Foodservice experience with general knowledge of restaurant operations
Knowledge of food safety standards and various baking techniques
Ability to follow recipes and produce consistent results
Safe food handling practices: handling food, objects, products and utensils
Strong attention to detail and time management skills
Strong communication skills for interacting with wait staff, cooks, and supervisors
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, or holidays as needed
Willingness to learn and grow within a supportive team
Alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permit or valid health/food handler card as required by local or state government
ServSafe® Certification and State Food Handlers Card
Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen
Physical and Sensory Requirements
This job involves regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and a kitchen environment with fumes, airborne particles, and moderate noise. Employees must have the physical stamina to stand for long periods, lift trays, and perform repetitive tasks. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures, and vibration may occur. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.
