University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry
is conducting a search for the
Department Executive Officer (DEO)/Chair for the Department of Orthodontics . This is a full-time clinical or tenure-track faculty at the full Professor level. This position reports to the Dean of the College of Dentistry.
Major Responsibilities
provide strong leadership to the department in the areas of teaching, scholarship and service;
collaborate with collegiate leadership and administration;
support faculty development and mentorship;
maintain close cooperation with other departments;
maintain an independent or collaborative research/scholarship program;
actively participate in service activities at the collegiate, regional, and national levels;
maintain an active involvement in the clinical/didactic teaching efforts of the department in Orthodontics at the pre/postdoctoral levels; and
actively participate in the departmental faculty practice plan.
The position is available June 30, 2026; screening begins immediately.
Academic track, and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants must have
D.D.S./D.M.D. or equivalent;
completion of an CODA/CDAC-accredited advanced training program in Orthodontics;
Board Certification or Eligibility in Orthodontics;
record of effective teaching and mentoring of faculty and/or students;
record of hypothesis/protocol-driven research and/or scholarly activity;
record of success in acquiring extramural grant support;
record of relevant administrative and leadership experience; and
professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Desirable qualifications
Ph.D. or equivalent;
clinical practice experience;
ability to foster collaborative interactions among faculty from different departments and colleges;
demonstrated ability to develop new research initiatives; and
demonstrated experience working effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.
Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.
