Job Description Provides leadership in the pursuit of Company safety goals and initiatives, including the management of safety procedures and policies, safety training of personnel, and performance of formal safety audits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manages safety programs assigned to include annual audits to ensure requirements are followed.

Surveys, compiles, and analyzes data relating to occupational and environmental health issues such as chemical exposure, radiation, smoke, fumes, noise, temperatures, dusts, vapors, mists, gases, solvents, lighting, and ergonomics.

Conducts or oversees employee Industrial Hygiene exposure monitoring.

Conducts incident investigations as necessary.

Promotes safe work behaviors.

Provides managerial support and subject matter expertise ensuring appropriate Employee Health and Safety (EHS) systems and resources are in place.

Provides technical guidance to management, labor organizations, government agencies and civic groups regarding health-related problems and correct use of protective clothing or accessories.

Monitors the Company’s health standards in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Maintains working knowledge of new developments in the industry and government regulations.

Implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.

Supervises and coordinates work activities of staff related to safety and OSHA.

Provides effective leadership, direction and professional expertise to management and employees on all areas of safety.

Implements programs to train managers and employees in worksite safety practices, fire prevention and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.

Prepares analysis of industrial accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards, determines corrective or preventive measures and follows up to ensure implementation.

Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries, and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations.

Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.

Stays abreast of Company policies, procedures, and regulations as well as governmental regulations impacting safety.

Supervises, coaches, develops, and mentors subordinates.

Motivates and encourages teamwork within the department to ensure objectives are met.

Works within budget constraints.

Fosters positive work relationships.

Observes and enforces all Company, housekeeping, safety and plant policies and procedures.

Has strong written, oral, communication and facilitation skills.

Creates and maintains a culture of continuous improvement.

Exercises delegated authority for the full range of personnel management matters.

Keeps Safety Manager and other key managers abreast of significant issues or developments as appropriate.

Fills in during Safety Manager’s absence.

Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervises two hourly employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Company policies, procedures, practices, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, rewarding, disciplining employees, discharging; planning, assigning, directing, and managing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative, but not all inclusive.

Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial Hygiene or a related field, plus 5 years’ experience in occupational health, safety and/or environmental compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and standards is required; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is required. At least 2 years’ supervisory or lead experience in manufacturing plant safety is required.

Other Skills and Abilities Basic First Aid training required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
