Patient Access Representative – Diabetes & Thyroid
Facility: Heart Center – Location: Sioux Falls, SD – 1305 W 18th St, Sioux Falls, SD 57104, USA
Shift: Day • Job Schedule: Full time • Weekly Hours: 40 • Salary Range: $16.25 – $23.00 • Job Function: Revenue Cycle
Job Summary As the first point of contact, you will provide extraordinary customer service to patients in the clinic or by phone, creating a welcoming and safe environment for every interaction. This role involves registration, scheduling, financial assistance coordination, and additional administrative duties to support the clinics’ operations.
Responsibilities
Registration
Greet patients and verify demographics
Create, scan, and route documents or electronic forms
Explain documents to patients and obtain necessary signatures
Establish and assign financial responsibility and assist with arrangements following appropriate policies and procedures
Collect co‑payments, pre‑payments, and payments on account balances
Work through the registration work queue to address and resolve registration errors or denied insurance claims
Scheduling
Coordinate appointments with nursing team and providers to meet patient needs
Obtain and coordinate referrals and conduct pre‑authorization
Arrange interpreter services
Check patients in/out
Operate multi‑line phone and serve as switchboard operator calling codes and paging providers
Resolve work queue issues, manage recall and waitlists
Additional Duties
Prepare and coordinate charts and supporting provider documents
Initiate and collaborate on patient financial assistance
Track patient visits and manage health information on patient accounts
Compile, distribute, administer, and score assessments
Coordinate tele‑medicine appointments and reminder calls for appointments
Assist with hospital admissions
Perform office duties such as making copies or sending faxes
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; post‑secondary education helpful
One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting; six months' customer service experience desired
Proficiency in medical terminology helpful; customer service skills essential
May require Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for certain locations and/or settings
