Overview
BAE Systems is looking for a CNC Machinist III to join our team in Louisville, KY. This position is on a weekday 2nd Shift with a 4/10 schedule. There is a sign-on bonus of $5,000 available for this position. The role supports a national impact through manufacturing high-precision components for defense products.
Responsibilities
Work from process sheets, engineering drawings/specifications, sketches and written/oral instructions to machine various end product items to extremely close tolerances, and inspect work using precision measuring instruments. Complete manufacturing/quality control reports and tag discrepant parts.
Independently perform tasks requiring accuracy and application of advanced shop mathematics.
Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to develop alternate methods and procedures for more efficient production.
Perform complex setups and precisely align workpieces in machines to tolerances on high and mid-complex parts, including gun barrels and similar items.
Apply GD&T, Feeds & Speeds calculations, and read/interpret multi-page blueprints.
Clean/deburr parts, maintain tooling and fixtures, and perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping.
Rigs/loads/unloads parts or equipment using appropriate handling equipment; assist with ancillary tasks as needed.
Train other machinists as required and follow safety rules and practices.
Understand and operate shop floor computerized time and attendance system and manage related responsibilities (clock in/out, close shop orders, etc.).
Qualifications
Must have a HS or GED with a minimum of 5 years of strong knowledge of Fanuc, Siemens, KT and G&L controls, and CNC programming (G-code, M-code). Experience in a union environment with a seniority-based system is preferred.
Ability to read, interpret, and edit programming to mitigate production delays/risks; knowledge of DNC software to upload programs.
Strong machining experience with exotic metals (e.g., Monel, Inconel, Titanium, K-Monel) and understanding of GD&T.
Ability to set, use, and read precision layout and measuring instruments; apply algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric functions to blueprint dimensions.
Ability to read and interpret multi-paged complex machining blueprints; capable of setting up and operating major machine tools.
Self-motivated with the ability to apply talents independently and with good judgment; able to assist others in solving quality issues and setting up complex tasks.
Eligible to obtain a security clearance.
Pay and Benefits This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will determine wages. Employee benefits for union employees are governed by the CBA.
