Salary: Grade 135/Step 1 = $53,123.20 annually to Grade 145/Step 1 = $58,572.80 annually DOE

POSITION SUMMARY This position performs preventive maintenance and repairs on the wastewater collection systems to ensure proper operation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Not all duties may be assigned to each position.

The allocation of duties for this position will be dependent upon the department/division assigned.

Inspects, repairs, rehabilitates and maintains the wastewater collection system, including locating sanitary sewer and storm drains; repairing wastewater lines; installing flow meters; making sewer taps; maintaining air relief and sewer valves; and lift stations.

Inspects manholes.

Maintains and repairs lift stations including electrical equipment, pumps, floats, structures, piping and valves.

Inputs, updates and maintains information and records using computer programs.

Operates sewer camera system to visually inspect and document sewer line conditions.

Locate sewer and storm drains using electronic equipment.

Inspects, maintains and repairs wastewater lines.

Maintains, and repairs sanitary sewer lift station equipment.

Cleans, televises and repairs sanitary and storm sewers.

Performs maintenance on storm sewers.

Adjusts, repairs and replaces manhole rings and covers.

Transports equipment and materials to and from work sites.

Collects wastewater samples for sanitary sewer overflows

Maintains up-to-date records of all maintenance activities.

Sprays pesticides to control mosquitoes on City property.

Cleans, lubricates, and performs preventive maintenance or repair on equipment.

Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.

Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting.

Provides backup assistance to other department personnel as needed.

Maintains appropriate records including complete equipment repair history, work orders and other related data.

Completes written and digital records of maintenance and repair activities.

Performs emergency repairs and works as necessary.

Reports to work for after‑hour needs, as assigned.

Consistent and punctual attendance for all scheduled shifts is required.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications WW Collections Operator I – Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma/equivalent.

Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree or Technical degree.

Other Requirements

Valid Class B CDL without air brake restriction and with tank endorsement within six (6) months of date of hire at City’s expense.

Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, categories general and 9, within six (6) months of date of hire.

SDDANR Wastewater Collections I, pass certification examination within six (6) months of date of hire.

First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.

Must reside within 15 miles of the Watertown Regional Airport within six (6) months of hire.

WW Collections Operator II – Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma/equivalent.

Valid Driver’s License.

Two (2) years of Public Works related labor experience in wastewater collection systems.

SDDANR Wastewater Collections I certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree or Technical degree.

Other Requirements

Valid Class B CDL without air brake restriction and with tank endorsement within six (6) months of date of hire at the City’s expense.

Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, categories general and 9, within six (6) months of date of hire.

SDDANR Wastewater Collections II Certificate at date of hire or promotion.

First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.

Must reside within 15 miles of the Watertown Regional Airport within six (6) months of hire.

WW Collections Operator III – Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma/equivalent.

Valid Driver’s License.

Four (4) years of Public Works related labor experience in wastewater collection systems.

SDDANR Wastewater Collections III certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree or Technical degree.

Other Requirements

Valid Class B CDL without air brake restriction and with tank endorsement within six (6) months of date of hire at the City’s expense.

Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, categories general and 9, within six (6) months of date of hire.

SDDANR Wastewater Collections III Certificate at date of hire or promotion.

First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.

Must reside within 15 miles of the Watertown Regional Airport within six (6) months of hire.
