The Data Center Technician is a core member of the Global IT Infrastructure Team, responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and security of data center operations. Serve as the primary onsite contact for all data center operations and support activities. Perform installation, configuration, maintenance, and decommissioning of servers, storage, and network equipment. Manage physical and logical access to data center facilities, ensuring compliance with security policies. Monitor and respond to environmental, power, and hardware alerts; coordinate with vendors for maintenance and repairs. Maintain accurate documentation of assets, cabling, and changes within the data center. Support remote hands requests from global IT teams. Participate in capacity planning, hardware lifecycle management, and inventory control. Assist with backup/restore operations and disaster recovery testing. Ensure adherence to health, safety, and compliance standards. Provide onboarding and training for new team members or contractors as needed.
Tasks and Duties
Rack, cable, and deploy new hardware (servers, storage, network devices)
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware faults (diagnostics, part replacement, RMA coordination)
Maintain and update asset inventory and documentation systems
Perform structured cabling, labeling, and patch management
Monitor and manage power usage, UPS systems, and environmental controls
Coordinate with vendors for onsite support, warranty claims, and preventive maintenance
Implement and monitor physical security controls (access logs, CCTV, badge systems)
Support OS installation, imaging, and configuration for servers (Windows, Linux)
Assist with virtualization platform maintenance (VMware, Hyper‑V)
Participate in backup/restore operations (Commvault)
Respond to and resolve incidents and service requests within SLAs
Support network troubleshooting (patching, VLAN configuration, basic switch/router tasks)
Document all changes and maintain up-to-date runbooks and procedures
Participate in audits and compliance checks as required
Support local staff based on tickets
Requirements
3‑5 years’ experience in data center operations or enterprise IT infrastructure support
Extensive hands‑on experience with server, storage, and network hardware (installation, troubleshooting, upgrades, and repairs)
Experience with rack and stack, structured cabling, and cable management best practices
Familiarity with environmental monitoring, power distribution (UPS, PDU), and cooling systems
Knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper‑V), Windows and Linux server administration
Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions
Understanding of security and access control systems within data centers
Exposure to network administration (switches, routers, firewalls, VLANs, DNS, DHCP)
Experience with hardware lifecycle management and inventory systems
