Job Title Slitter Operator

Location Madison, WI

Department Slitting

Shift 12‑hour Shift (6 a.m.–6 p.m.) Sun, Mon, Tue and E/O Sat

Reports to Manufacturing Supervisor

Responsibilities

Operate the slitter following customer quality specifications, ensuring accurate dimensions, sizes, quantity, and print quality; perform rework/rewinding of rolls with identified defects.

Monitor and direct the activities of the Slitter Assistant, advising and guiding as needed.

Train Slitter Assistant to achieve proficiency allowing them to cover breaks and act as a fill‑in.

Coordinate with supervision, planning, and quality to complete rework efficiently.

Ensure proper and accurate machine setup, including reviewing the job folder and data, hanging rolls with a hoist, consulting blueprints, completing the slitting checklist, setting web guides and knives per specifications, wiping rollers, adjusting gauges, cores, or spacers, and preparing the machine for the next job.

Monitor the machine for wrinkles, voids, print quality, and fisheyes, recording sets on AS400 and daily totals on scoreboards.

Set footage counter, hang rolls, cut out press stops, splice, and take sets off the slitter for core installation.

Obtain and deliver samples to the lab for Quality Assurance.

Assist in labeling, bagging, and putting away sets as time permits.

Follow all safety rules.

Complete other duties assigned by the Manufacturing Supervisor.

Job Specific Skills and Abilities

Proficient mathematical and measurement skills; knowledge of metric conversions.

1–2 years of slitter assistant experience preferred.

Ability to run multiple jobs simultaneously.

Ability to handle project-type work while working individually with little supervision.

Experience with production computer software.

Broad knowledge of product and customer specifications.

Mechanical knowledge and ability to adjust gauges, scales, and hand tools.

Education and Certifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
