Student Employee - Grounds Main Campus
City of San Marino, Warrensburg, Missouri, United States, 64093
Provide operational and maintenance support for campus grounds and exterior facilities. Assist with landscaping, lawn care, litter removal, and general upkeep to ensure a safe, clean, and visually appealing campus environment. Support grounds supervisors and facilities staff by performing routine grounds maintenance tasks, responding to service needs, and assisting with seasonal and special projects, contributing to efficient daily operations and positive campus appearance.
Examples of Duties
Grounds Maintenance and Operations
Perform routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, raking, and leaf removal. Assist with planting, mulching, watering, and basic landscape care for trees, shrubs, lawns, and flower beds. Remove litter and debris from sidewalks, parking lots, green spaces, and exterior building areas. Assist with snow and ice removal, including shoveling, salting, and monitoring walkways during inclement weather (seasonal). Support setup, teardown, and maintenance of outdoor spaces for campus events as needed.
Equipment and Materials Support
Safely operate and maintain basic grounds equipment and hand tools, such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and shovels, under supervision. Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting tools, equipment, and materials. Report equipment issues, safety concerns, or maintenance needs to supervisors.
Administrative and Team Support
Assist with documenting completed work, supply usage, or maintenance needs as requested. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding daily tasks and priorities.
Other Duties
Follow all campus safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Support special projects, seasonal operations, or emergency response efforts as assigned. Perform additional related duties as requested by supervisors or administrators.
Education and Experience
Must be currently enrolled as a student at the University. Majoring in a related field. An interest in landscaping, horticulture, facilities management, environmental science, or related fields is beneficial but not required. No prior grounds or landscaping experience required; training will be provided. Previous outdoor work, manual labor, or customer service experience preferred but not required. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team. Physical/Environmental Factors
Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling of up to 50 lbs. Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and working outdoors across campus grounds. Regular exposure to inclement weather, heat, cold, noise, dust, and typical outdoor working conditions. Working Hours
