This is a State Merit System Services (MSS) classification. Bilingual Incentive Pay is +7.5% above the Eligibility Specialist II base salary. What Will You Do? The Eligibility Specialist classifications determine the eligibility of applicants and recipients for public assistance programs through interactive interviewing and fact gathering; maintain current knowledge of program regulations and procedures necessary for multi-program caseload administration; initiate and process casework through automated systems; identify needs and make appropriate referrals for health, social, and/or employment services; and perform related work as required.
Responsibilities emphasize continuous quality improvement, strong work ethic, prioritization of tasks, and timely follow-through. Candidates should possess excellent listening, written and verbal communication, customer service, initiative, and solution-based problem solving skills, and be able to maintain professional relationships with customers, management and staff. Proficiency in MS Office and basic knowledge of software and database programs is expected.
Minimum Qualifications
One (1) year of full-time experience in an Eligibility Specialist I classification in an Interagency Merit System (IMS) County; OR
Two (2) years of full-time experience determining eligibility for public assistance programs in a public human services agency.
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
License & Special Requirements
Requires a valid California Class C driver’s license.
Bilingual Candidates
Requires passing Merit Systems Bilingual Testing.
Requires written and verbal Spanish communications with clients.

New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
