Overview

Requires professional knowledge of public recreation services, including supervisory, mid-level management, and administrative skills. Will manage community recreation center(s) and will assist in the planning, organization, and supervision of center(s) and community-wide leisure activities/programs including downtown Hopkinsville events, sports leagues, youth activities, senior programs, and special events. Assist in the preparation of timely publicity and press releases that are appropriate to scheduled programs and special events. Qualifications

Requires three (3) years’ experience in community recreation, parks operations, and/or sports turf management and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a major in Recreation and Parks Administration, Physical Education, Sports Management, Turf Management, or closely related field. One (1) year recreational management experience preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel, Word is required with a preferred knowledge in Adobe, Canva, or similar software. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which evidences a comprehensive knowledge of recreation programs, parks administration, and sports turf management may be considered. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge of the processes and procedures associated with daily and longer-term recreation program planning and leadership. Knowledge of supervisory and management techniques. Experience in the use of personal computers and typical software program applications. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to subordinates, supervisors, and others. While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to noise from large groups of people and temperature extremes associated with outdoor work, which may include hot, humid, cold, damp, dry, or windy conditions at various locations, as well as heavy vegetation and pests associated with outdoor activities.
