VP of Engineering

MarketDial, Inc., Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, 84193

Save Job

At MarketDial we run real-world experiments for large retailers—systems that process billions of transactions and drive decisions that show up in daily operations and earnings calls. The tech foundation has been solidly built over the last 10 years. The opportunity now is to move faster, with clarity, and without breaking trust in the results.

This role is for a VP of Engineering who reports to the CEO and wants real ownership. You’ll lead a small, strong team of full-stack engineers, data engineers, and devops, set technical direction, and be accountable for our velocity and quality. You won’t be managing through layers or inheriting heavy processes. You’ll be close to the code, close to the people, and close to the business.

We’re looking for someone who can raise the bar on execution: turning challenging product problems into concrete plans, keeping teams focused, and making smart tradeoffs when speed and correctness are in tension. You’ll still write code while also operating at the executive level—setting priorities, shaping culture, and representing engineering in company-wide decisions.

You’ll know this role is a good fit if:

You want a VP of Engineering role with real ownership

You like leading a small team while still writing production code, especially in systems where correctness and scale matter

You’re comfortable setting technical direction, making tradeoffs, and being accountable for outcomes

You’ve designed, built, and owned production data systems end-to-end—pipelines, models, and validation—where correctness, scale, and downstream trust actually matter

You’ve spent real time in Python and SQL, working with data pipelines, analytics systems, or platforms where bugs have real downstream impact

You care about code quality and maintainability

You want to help a team move faster by improving focus, execution, and decision-making

You want to shape a thoughtful approach to using AI in engineering: where it helps, where it doesn’t, and how to apply it responsibly in systems where correctness matters

Experience that we think would be helpful:

Building data-heavy backends and APIs (Python, relational databases, Pandas/NumPy/Polars or similar)

Shipping web-based analytics or internal tools used by technical users

Writing and maintaining automated tests across application and data workflows

Comfort with modern dev practices: Git/GitHub, code review, CI/CD, etc.

Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (GCP a plus) and a pragmatic DevOps mindset

Exposure to statistics, experimentation, or ML is helpful, but not required

Some of the benefits we offer include:

Competitive compensation, including stock options with a 10-year exercise period

401(k) with company match

Fully covered healthcare, plus a company-funded HRA for out-of-pocket costs

Flexible, unlimited time off and generous parental leave

Transportation benefits and reimbursement

Free meals when in the office and a fully stocked kitchen

Access to free ski passes to all Utah resorts

Flexible work setup: Downtown SLC office with partial remote options

Open, transparent culture with a small, highly engaged team

This position requires in‑office work two days per week, so applicants must be based in or near the Salt Lake City area.
