Position Summary Quality Metal Spinning & Machining (QMS) is seeking a mid‑level Quality Engineer to support and continually improve our Quality Management System and product compliance across aerospace, semiconductor, and advanced technology customers. This role is hands‑on and technical, with direct responsibility for interpreting customer drawings and specifications, performing dimensional verification, managing first‑article requirements, and driving corrective actions.
QMS supports programs and customers including Applied Materials, SpaceX, Google, Blue Origin, Western Digital, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Stanford University, and IBM. This position is well‑suited for a Quality Engineer who is solid in fundamentals and ready to grow into a senior role with increased ownership of audits, system improvements, and customer interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and quality requirements, including GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
Perform hands‑on dimensional inspection and verification of precision machined and spun parts using standard mechanical measuring tools.
Prepare, review, and approve First Article Inspection Reports in accordance with AS9102 or customer‑equivalent requirements.
Support and maintain the Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards.
Identify nonconforming product or process conditions and lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
Review customer flow‑downs, specifications, and special process requirements to ensure full compliance.
Support internal audits and participate in customer and registrar audits.
Develop and maintain quality documentation, procedures, inspection methods, and records.
Analyze inspection and quality data to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
Serve as a technical quality point of contact for internal teams and external customers.
Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and operations to resolve quality issues.
Required Qualifications
5–7 years of experience in a Quality Engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.
Strong understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
Experience performing or reviewing First Article Inspections (AS9102 or similar).
Hands‑on experience with manual inspection and dimensional verification.
Experience with nonconformance management, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Aerospace, semiconductor, or defense industry experience.
Experience supporting customer audits and source inspections.
Familiarity with CMM inspection data and reports.
Experience in a high‑mix, low‑volume job shop environment.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, or related field (or equivalent experience).
