Responsibilities

The Counselor I is part of the SolMar Retreat and Hoag Addiction Treatment Center (HATC) team supporting the assessment, treatment planning, referral recommendations, discharge planning, education and direct therapeutic intervention for client and their families throughout the course of treatment.

Coordinates care with outside providers by way of referrals when necessary.

Serves as a point of contact for the client between therapists and other members of the treatment team.

Collaborates with all members of the HATC multidisciplinary team.

Leads and facilitates lectures for clients.

Ensures the clients follow treatment schedule.

Assists with admissions and discharges, assuring all admissions and discharge documents are signed.

Provides client with an orientation about the program, rules, and a tour of the unit, including their room as assigned.

Accompanies clients to and from medical and other appointments or other critical needs as they arise.

Redirects and reports clients if rules are broken.

Responsible for understanding and enforcing program rules at all levels of care.

Assists on searching belongings at admission as well as random room searches in residential level of care and collects UDS as assigned.

Responsible for reading the shift log at the beginning of shift and documenting all necessary information at the end of the shift.

Chemical Dependency and HATC: In addition to the above, performs focused collaboration with the medical team, admissions, and the utilization review team.

SolMar Retreat: In addition to the above, communicates with physician and Supervisor of Addiction Care regarding physician orders, prescriptions, refills as needed including IMS/MAT services. Observes self-administration of medications including MAT and documents in client EMR. Documents daily living activities and records behaviors. Informs the Supervisor of Addiction Care of any changes in behavior. Assists and encourages clients to participate in self-help groups such as AA/NA.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Education and Experience

High School Graduate or equivalent required.

One year minimum experience in addiction/behavioral health required.

Two years of experience in addiction/behavioral health environment preferred.

Experience in addiction/behavioral health environment preferred.

Working knowledge of CARF and/or JCAHO accreditation standards required.

Knowledge of the 12-step, Smart Recovery, and other treatment models required.

Knowledge of HIPAA required.

Certifications Required

CATC – Certified Addiction Treatment Counselor

or CADC I - Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor I

or RADT Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician

or LAADC - Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor

or RAC – Registered Addiction Counselor

or SUDRC – Substance Use Disorder Registered Counselor

or SUDCC – Substance Use Disorder Certified Counselor

and BLS - AHA Basic Life Support required at hire.

CADC-CAS certification is accepted and grandfathered for employees hired before 8-1-2021. These employees have one year to acquire the CATC I, or CADC I, or RADT, or LAADC.
