General Job Description The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic that specializes in the modernization and repairing of cranes. This position may perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades, and solve complex problems when the crane malfunctions. The role requires self‑sufficiency, leadership, effective communication, and professionalism in order to lead field technicians and act as the liaison between HCSG management and customers. It is a safety‑first environment, with technicians expected to be on‑call, and to provide after‑hour or weekend services as required.
Duties & Responsibilities
Be on‑call and provide after‑hour services as required.
Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes in the field at customer locations.
Train and mentor field technicians.
Perform OSHA‑required hoist and crane inspections, generate inspection reports and repair orders.
Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager during the day so work can be scheduled and completed.
Consult with customers on all repair and safety issues and recommend solutions that improve their services.
Maintain all company‑issued equipment, vehicles, and assets in safe, working order.
Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and responsibly; notify the supervisor of any deficiencies.
Maintain supplies of HCSG forms and miscellaneous materials in the company vehicle.
Work effectively in a team environment.
Attend company‑provided trainings and seminars as required.
Participate in the HCSG 5‑Marks program.
Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands Work is labor‑intensive. Must lift up to 50 lbs daily, up to 100 lbs occasionally. Requires frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, prolonged standing and sitting; occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling. Requires hand‑eye coordination. Height exposures of over 50 ft occur regularly.
Work Environment Work may take place indoors or outdoors, with extremes of temperature. Summer temperatures can exceed 120 °F. Exposure to noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors is common.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 5‑7 years of crane repair & maintenance experience
At least 3‑4 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience, if not crane repair experience
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Commitment to safe work and driving practices
Willingness to work at various heights off the ground
Basic computer skills for web‑based crane inspection programs
Excellent communication skills; ability to work independently or as a team
Knowledge of hand tools or possession of hand tools
Preferred Qualifications
Vocational/Technical training certificate
Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug test and background (DISA) and submit to random and annual drug testing as required.
