Position Summary Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for dedicated, public-service oriented volunteers to join the Consumer Advocacy and Response Division (CARD) within the Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau at the Boston Massachusetts Office. CARD receives and reviews complaints, advocates on behalf of Massachusetts consumers, and implements settlements entered into by the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) in various areas relating to the Office’s consumer protection efforts, including debt collection, mortgage lending and servicing, housing, automobile sales and lending, utilities, and professional services. The Division also provides referrals and other assistance to consumers, performs research, engages in community outreach, and participates in public education trainings.

Primary Duties The Consumer Advocacy Volunteer is responsible for calling members of the public who have filed consumer complaints about online or telephone scams and providing timely, knowledgeable information about available resources to prevent scams or mitigate the harm caused by scams. This role requires developing a strong understanding of referral networks and community resources, asking appropriate screening questions to ensure the best possible referrals, and following established procedures for making external referrals.

Salary This is an unpaid volunteer position.

Qualifications

Experience working in a call center or in a public-facing customer service role.

Proficient organizational skills.

Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain clear records of calls received.

Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.

The ability to speak and understand Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, or Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is a plus.
