General Position Summary Assist the Lead Landscaper in duties to help ensure the accurate and efficient operation of all Port owned grounds and facilities.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

Perform groundskeeping and building maintenance duties as assigned by lead.

Proficient in the mixing and spraying of chemicals including pesticides and herbicides.

Apply pesticides to rid grounds of pests.

Apply fertilizer to ground to enhance growth.

Apply weed killer and other chemicals to Port properties to keep grounds looking good.

Mow lawns either by hand, using a riding lawnmower or heavier tractor equipment.

Cut lawn using hand, power or riding mower and trim and edge around walks, flower beds and walls.

Planting flowers, grass, shrubs and bushes.

Shovel snow from walkways and sprinkle ice melt down on all grounds.

Sweep walkway of debris or use a leaf blower.

Trim shrubs and pull weeds.

Rake, mulch and prune the grounds as needed.

Water plants and grass as needed.

Maintain irrigation systems, including winterizing the systems, starting systems up in spring, diagnosing and repairing any issues.

Construction of irrigation systems.

Designing and understanding irrigation systems including sprinklers and electric valves.

Set up tables and chairs as needed for conference room meetings as directed by Administration at Main office.

Decorate, maintain and remove decorations for holidays throughout the Port facilities.

Specific Job Skills

Possess knowledge of general lawn maintenance equipment such as lawn mower, trimmers and blowers.

Good organizational skills.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Ability to work outside in different climates including cold, wet, hot and windy conditions.

Ability to stand for long periods including bending, stooping and reaching.

Must possess a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of current vehicle insurance.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Education and/or Experience

High school education or equivalent required.

Possess applicator’s license for herbicide and pesticides. (must provide a copy of license)

Job Conditions Working conditions include working alone and with others, heavy equipment operation, working outside in varying weather conditions, and frequent interruptions. The applicant may be required to work in an environment where there are fumes, building temperature fluctuations, noise, chemicals, poor ventilation, dirt, dust, chemicals and extreme outside weather temperatures.
