Job Title: Floating Substitute Teacher
Location: Multiple Child Inc. Centers (Austin, TX area) Reports to: Center Operations Manager Status: Non-Exempt | Full-Time
About Child Inc. Child Inc. is the largest Head Start provider in Travis County, serving children from birth to age five and their families. Our mission is to provide high‑quality early childhood education and family support services that prepare children for school and lifelong success.
Position Overview The Floating Substitute Teacher plays a vital role in supporting classrooms across all Child Inc. centers. This position temporarily fills in for teachers or teacher assistants, ensuring that children receive consistent, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
You will help implement curriculum, maintain safe and engaging environments, and support the overall health, safety, and growth of children ages infant through 5 years.
Key Responsibilities
Provide classroom coverage in the absence of a teacher or assistant teacher.
Support lesson planning and implementation aligned with Head Start Performance Standards.
Engage children in meaningful, developmentally appropriate activities that support social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth.
Maintain a safe classroom environment-ensuring children are always within sight and sound.
Assist in observing and documenting child development using
Teaching Strategies Gold
and
Creative Curriculum .
Build positive, nurturing relationships with children, families, and staff.
Support bilingual and multicultural learning experiences.
Ensure classrooms are organized, clean, and literacy‑rich.
Participate in trainings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma required.
Infant/Toddler CDA
or
Preschool CDA (or willingness to earn within 12 months of employment).
At least 3 months of experience working with children (infant–5 years).
Ability to work at multiple Child Inc. centers as assigned.
Basic computer skills.
Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days).
Must pass physical exam, TB test, and all background checks.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
