The MSU Science Festival, as part of the Michigan State University Office of University Outreach and Engagement , is hiring a Communications Assistant to support the promotion of MSU Science Festival Public and K-12 events for the 2026 season. The Communications Assistant will capture and share the stories of MSU Science Festival presenters, community partners, and attendees through a wide variety of media outlets and platforms to promote and create public awareness about the festival. This is a seasonal, part-time position beginning in February and ending in May of 2026.
Responsibilities include:
Social media and newsletter content development to support festival promotion
Capturing Science Festival events through photography and video
Assisting with writing and distribution of press releases
Providing editorial support for print and digital materials
Website content management support
Media support and scheduling of interviews with festival staff and presenters
Ideal Qualifications
Current enrollment at Michigan State University (required)
Skilled in photography, videography, and content development for a wide variety of formats
Experience conducting interviews and telling stories across a variety of formats
Experience working with Lansing-area news and media outlets
Experience managing and growing social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability and comfort using a wide range of Microsoft Office software
Attention to detail, including fact-checking, and maintaining schedules
Flexible weekend and afternoon availability during the month of April
Must be able to stand and walk for longer periods of time and be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
Possess a current, valid US driver’s license
