Position Overview As an
Engineering & Facilities Maintenance Technician 1 (MT1) , you will maintain and repair automated material handling and facility equipment, ensuring high equipment availability. You will perform preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshoot breakdowns, restore equipment to service, collaborate with mechanics, validate contractor work, and conduct Root Cause Analysis with Senior Systems Engineers. You may drive Target vehicles, travel between facilities and local stores, and travel for parts procurement.
Core Responsibilities
Maintain and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical aspects of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) including conveyors, sortation, scales, and printer applicators.
Demonstrate proficiency with hydraulic, pneumatic, AC/DC motors, drives, belts, chains, cables, bearings, wheels, rollers, pulleys, motors, photo eyes, relays, sensors, solenoids, starters, tachometers, encoders, etc.
Clean, lubricate, and calibrate equipment; use job plans, procedures, and manuals.
Perform preventive maintenance on facility equipment such as Powered Industrial Trucks, HVAC, compressors, dryers, balers.
Conduct basic electrical maintenance and simple repair of circuits and electronic equipment using tools like multimeters and infrared thermometers.
Read and understand basic electrical and electronic schematics.
Use handheld devices and asset‑management mobile apps to create and close work orders, recording labor hours, downtime, cause, remedy, and parts used.
Develop positive working relationships across all organizational levels.
Follow safety procedures and use PPE (Lockout/Tagout, Arc Flash, etc.) to maintain a safe work environment.
Physical Demands
Regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching both below the waist and above the head.
Lift and move totes or cartons up to 49 pounds each.
Walk frequently within and around the site.
Climb ladders, gangways, and work off platforms at significant heights.
Manual dexterity in both hands and wrists; eye/hand coordination; repetitive wrist motion.
Work in small spaces, with dust, fumes, temperatures, noise, vibration; stand on concrete for long periods; wet or uneven surfaces.
Stand or walk up to 10‑12 hours.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver's license for the state of employment.
Basic PC competency and mobile‑device app usage.
Familiar with simple wiring diagrams, symbols, and electrical measuring.
Experience with work‑order management, preventive/predictive maintenance, industrial tools, basic carpentry & plumbing, schematic reading, AC/DC principles, metal fabrication & welding, industrial controls.
Desired Experience
Vocational or college degree in Mechanical or Electrical field.
2+ years apprenticeship or equivalent experience in Mechanical or Electrical field.
Experience with automated conveyor systems and controls.
Experience with MHE safety standards.
Experience with PLC programs and HMIs.
Troubleshoot basic Input/Output functions.
Experience with robotic operation or maintenance.
