Hardware Engineer Technician
Kelly Engineering is seeking a detail-focused and highly capable Hardware Engineering Technician to join our client's organization. The responsibilities of this position include assembling and connecting intricate prototype server and network rack systems, supporting the integration of prototype server-level setups, and ensuring all assemblies are ready for customer evaluations such as Test Rack Inspections and First Article Inspections. The successful candidate will demonstrate practical experience handling challenges related to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and will be adept at modifying prototypes in response to customer input.
Responsibilities include:
- Assemble, build and install prototype server and network rack systems by following technical requirements.
- Integrate components and troubleshoot system-level prototype builds as needed.
- Carry out complex cabling tasks for server and network racks, maintaining an organized and high-quality setup.
- Prepare prototypes for customer inspection stages, including the Test Rack Inspection (TRI) and First Article Inspection (FAI), ensuring all standards are met.
- Take part in completing activities essential for TRI and FAI, such as verifying mechanical fit and ease of service.
- Modify prototype assemblies to accommodate changes requested by customers or required by the engineering team.
- Observe and note manufacturability and serviceability considerations throughout the prototype assembly phase, sharing findings with relevant parties.
- Keep comprehensive records of building steps, challenges, and their resolutions to assist with ongoing and future projects.
- Partner with quality assurance, product design, and engineering teams to achieve efficient and successful prototype builds.
- Uphold a safe and tidy work area, consistently adhering to best practices and safety guidelines.
Qualifications include:
- Technical certification or associate degree in Mechanical or Electronics Engineering (or relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree).
- 3+ years previous employment as a hardware technician, with hands-on familiarity with server/network rack assembly and cabling.
- Deep understanding of DFM principles, prototype assembly, and cabling methods.
- Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and process documentation.
- Excellent teamwork and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional focus on detail, with a proactive mindset toward problem resolution.
- Physical capability to handle equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Preferred skills include:
- Background knowledge of server hardware and configuring networks.
- Experience with customer-driven rack inspections and initial article review processes.
- Skilled in adjusting prototype products based on feedback and design iteration.
