Job Summary The GATE Store Food Service Associate ensures customer service is the first priority for GATE operations by providing a friendly and efficient experience for our guests. They perform routine food preparation and customer assistance, collaborate with the Store Kitchen Manager and Store Manager to control store operations and inventory, assist customers with finding products and providing product information, operate food production equipment, stock coolers and shelves, maintain cleanliness and organization, perform minor maintenance and repairs on store equipment, operate register to process cash and credit card payments, and assist in training new and existing team members on food preparation, customer service, and kitchen safety procedures.

Requirements

Successfully complete a pre‑employment drug screening and background check.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and split shifts.

Proficient speaking, reading, writing, and comprehending English at a sufficient level for effective communication with customers and team members.

Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.

Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Capability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.

Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time.

Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and reach (including overhead).

Comfortable working in a fast‑paced food service environment with exposure to heat, cold, and various kitchen equipment.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals for food service equipment.

Job Knowledge Must possess basic mathematical knowledge and be able to effectively follow all safety and sanitation guidelines and regulations to ensure quality food service. Must have strong customer service skills and gain product knowledge through training to assist customers and to ensure their selection is properly stocked. Preferred previous successful job experience in a convenience store, restaurant / fast food or related environment; knowledge of Food Safety.

Duties and Functions

Arrive to work on time, consistently.

Follow GATE standards for uniform and appearance.

Attend all required training, safety courses, office and departmental meetings.

Ensure GATE’s customers are the first priority to guarantee customers continue to visit GATE stores.

Greet customers and assist with questions about products or services GATE offers.

Ensure a friendly and efficient checkout experience for customers.

Handle all payments following all GATE policies.

Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.

Communicate accurately and positively to customers and other staff, including addressing inquiries and resolving complaints.

Adhere to Federal, State, Local laws and regulations, including company policy.

Obtain or be willing to obtain Food Safety Certification.

Utilize organizational skills to maintain a clean and well‑stocked store.

Perform minor repairs and maintenance of store food equipment while ensuring food quality and maintaining commercial kitchen cleanliness.

Sanitize surfaces, properly store ingredients, and follow hygiene protocols.

Maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization of the facility, including cleaning restrooms, floors, windows, and storage rooms.

Follow all food safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and temperature control.

Properly store and rotate ingredients to minimize waste and ensure freshness.

Prepare made‑to‑order food items according to set menu, following standard recipes and portion guidelines.

Accommodate customer requests for menu customizations while maintaining food quality and consistency.

Provide friendly and efficient service, assisting customers with menu choices and answering questions about ingredients and preparation methods.

Ensure proper portion control and presentation of all food items.

Perform any additional tasks requested or assigned by the Kitchen and Store Managers.
