Compensation New Hire Sign‑On Bonus: $3,000

Position Summary Under the direction of the Security Supervisor, the Senior Security Officer (Armed) is responsible for providing armed, uniformed security presence throughout St. Joseph’s Health campuses, assessing threats, responding to incidents, and coordinating with law‑enforcement. The officer conducts investigations, reports events, and assists in maintaining campus safety.
Education, Training, Experience, Certification & Licensure
Valid State of New York Armed Security Guard License (includes firearms training and a valid NYS pistol permit) or active New York State police officer status at hiring.
Police officers must obtain an armed security license and NYS pistol permit within six months.
DCJS Basic Course for Police Officers preferred.
High School Diploma/GED required; Associate Degree preferred.
Valid NYS Driver’s License required.
IAHSS Basic Security Certification within one year of hire.
FEMA Emergency Management Institute courses (IS‑100c) within 90 days.
BLS Certification required upon hire or within three weeks.
Special Equipment, Skills, or Other Requirements
Minimum five (5) years in Armed Security Guard, Healthcare/Hospital security, or Law Enforcement.
Preferred: 5 years Law Enforcement experience.
Must pass a psychiatric evaluation before hire.
Knowledge of New York State Penal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, and use‑of‑force continuum.
Work Environmental and Hazards Frequent exposure to adverse conditions such as noise, noxious odors, variable temperatures, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases. Routine potential exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions, or secretions.
Physical Demands Frequent close‑eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing); sedentary with light and moderate lifting (up to 50 lbs); occasional heavy lifting up to 51 lbs; patient handling up to 35 lbs.
Work Contact Group All services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
Supervised By Senior Security Supervisor, Security Manager, and Regional Director of Security

Principal Responsibilities Equipment
Maintain and operate department equipment, including motor vehicles.
Demonstrate safe use and proficiency with all assigned equipment (firearm, pepper gel, etc.).
Security Services
Perform security/safety rounds, fixed‑post assignments, and respond to calls promptly.
Apply de‑escalation and threat‑mitigation techniques, handle emotionally disturbed persons, and enforce search policy.
Investigate incidents, submit thorough reports to the Lead Security Officer.
Identify hazards, hazards, and alert supervisors to deficiencies.
Investigations / Property
Prepare thorough and professional written reports using the designated system.
Document incidents via video surveillance, access control, and still photographs.
Maintain confidentiality and restrict dissemination without permission.
Pay Range $25.00 – $35.70 per hour, variable by experience, skill, education, and location. Exempt positions paid within the base salary equivalent.
