Public Services Librarian for Youth Programs
Alsip-Merrionette Park Public Library District, La Grange, Wisconsin, United States
An engaged and civically minded staff and greater library community await the right candidate for this dynamic position. Under the supervision of the Public Services Manager, this position will focus primarily on creating youth programs (birth to fifth grade) for our diverse and growing community.
What You’ll Do: The Public Services Librarian for Youth Programs provides a positive and welcoming experience for patrons and assists with their information needs through excellent service. The Public Services Librarian for Youth Programs engages with the community through the development of youth programs, collections and services that meet our young patrons’ needs and facilitate their use of the library.
Develop, deliver and evaluate programs that meet the needs of young people of diverse backgrounds and their caregivers
Work with local partners (including our Public Servies Librarian for Adult Programs and Teen Librarian) on innovative programs and services that support LGPL’s strategic goal to develop a Community of Compassion and build Civic Awareness
Cultivate a variety of multi-lingual programs and intergenerational programs
Participate in internal committees to develop programs, services and goalsthat support Library culture and organizational health
Coordinate the program schedule and newsletter content for youth birth to fifth grade
Assist patrons in person, online and via phone, providing excellent service to enhance their library experience
Maintain, monitor and develop assigned collections
Act as Person in Charge during select evening and weekend rotations

Minimum Qualifications:
Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent work experience
At least one (1) year of work experience in a public service environment
Experience working in a public library preferredCommitment to continuous improvement and self-directed learning
Access to regular, reliable transportation to conduct Library tasks
Working Conditions:
Primarily works in a standard, office workstation environment requiring extensive periods of sitting, using a computer keyboard, and reading a computer monitor.
Frequently moves between different areas of the library to provide customer service
Occasional work outdoors (Farmer’s Market, Outreach events, etc.)
Occasional bending, lifting, reaching or push/pull up to 100 pounds and lift to 25 pounds
Occasional travel to meetings, training, or offsite work within the La Grange service area and across Illinois
Opportunity for hybrid work and schedule flexibility
This position requires regular evening and weekend shifts.
