Recreation Center Assistant – Part‑time – Boone Trail Community Center Position summary

Harnett County Parks and Recreation Department seeks an enthusiastic and energetic individual to assist at the Boone Trail Community Center. The role involves planning, organizing, supervising, and conducting a variety of activities, operations, and programs; opening and closing the facility; interacting with the public; assisting with library duties; performing administrative tasks; preparing participation and inventory records; and helping with after‑school care and summer camp programs.

Compensation

Hourly pay rate: $16.00 – $23.00

Duties and responsibilities

Assist in planning, organizing, supervising, conducting, and promoting a wide variety of activities, operations, and programs for various age groups and special populations including youth and adult athletics, day camps, recreation, art classes, and special events.

Help prepare flyers and brochures for promotions and activities; keep bulletin boards and outside sign boards current; coordinate programming with others.

Schedule times and secure locations for programs and group rentals; maintain rosters of participants.

Register participants for recreational programs and events; collect fees; complete proper forms; maintain event records.

Inspect facilities for adequacy, safety, and maintenance needs; coordinate maintenance schedules with program schedules.

Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies; make recommendations for budget of activities and programs.

Supervise outdoor activities.

Enforce center rules and regulations; monitor activities and operations inside and outside the facility.

Perform daily housekeeping chores such as cleaning restrooms, sweeping/vacuuming floors, emptying trash containers, and picking up trash.

Work with children in after‑school programs and summer camps.

Assist the public and respond to inquiries.

Assist in preparation of regular and special reports.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

High school diploma

No experience required

Valid North Carolina driver’s license

Certification in CPR (or obtain within 90 days of hire)

Certification in AED (or obtain within 90 days of hire)

Certification in First Aid

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Knowledge of Microsoft Office products

Knowledge of age‑appropriate activities for children

Ability to talk with people

Computer skills for job‑related duties

Ability to establish rapport with adults and children

Ability to maintain basic records

Physical demands

The position requires medium work often involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. It also involves balancing, climbing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, stooping, walking and standing for extended periods. Visual acuity to work with color and observe situations is required.

Work environment

The employee works primarily indoors at a community center. The role may also involve supervising children during outdoor activities.
