Job Summary Under the immediate supervision of the Facility Manager and Beach Manager, the Beach Cashier position is responsible for performing various duties, preparing the beach for the demands of the customers at the beach, and assisting with daily beach operations. This is a part‑time summer position from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend (pre‑season training in mid‑May). The Beach Cashier position is responsible for performing the duties as outlined below. They work in groups of a minimum of one to a maximum of four Beach Staff.
This part‑time seasonal position typically requires working up to 15‑30 hours a week.
Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years old or older.
At least one year of experience working in a demanding customer service environment is preferred.
Ability to enforce lakefront rules in a positive manner.
All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover.
Required Knowledge
Knowledge of the philosophy of public recreation and the ability to effectively communicate it to others.
Proven technical understanding of the position’s content.
Required Skills
Proficient in operating a laptop and performing basic math tasks.
Outgoing personality with a positive, customer‑focused attitude.
Dependable and flexible, with strong safety awareness and sound judgment.
Ability to understand and follow rules and instructions.
Ability to read, write, and organize materials effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for checking customers’ beach passes and daily admissions.
Enforcing Lakefront rules to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
Supporting other Beach Cashier staff as needed.
Assisting with maintaining beach cleanliness throughout the day.
Setting up and taking down beach equipment as required.
Attending to the daily housekeeping needs of the beach, as well as the overall daily maintenance of the beach house.
Responsible for checking in season pass holders, their guests, and advance purchase daily admissions.
Responsible for enforcing rules at the point of entrance and throughout the facility.
Providing exceptional customer service to all patrons at the beach.
Work with other beach staff to assist in the event of an emergency.
Learn about processes and answer frequently asked questions about the beach, facility, lake, and equipment rentals.
Proficiently know all Lakefront rules and be able to enforce them positively to keep patrons safe.
Follow directions and instructions; be dependable, punctual, and organized.
Handle inquiries from the public (patrons) pleasantly, courteously, and professionally.
Follow, administer, and implement Glencoe Park District policies and guidelines.
Know what authorized vehicles can and cannot park and/or use specific ramps during beach hours.
Show good safety awareness and judgment; report all suspicious activity at the beach and/or surrounding areas.
Wear issued uniform at all times when on duty.
Be aware of the duties when searching for a missing person.
Follow and oversee the implementation of proper safety policies and procedures following the Glencoe Park District Safety Manual and report any accidents, incidents, or violations to the Facility Manager.
Field and answer patron questions to the best of their ability.
Participate in community activities such as the 4th of July.
Work closely with co‑workers and the public under the direction of supervisors.
Responsible for the safety of the general public.
Hours Due to the nature of Park District programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours are to be expected. The Beach Manager or Facility Manager might also direct the Beach Cashier to perform other assignments not included in this job description, which is subject to periodic review and revision.
Pay Scale This is a seasonal part‑time, non‑exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $15 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $15 per hour to $20 per hour. Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Hiring Manager, or the Dept. Head.
