Camp Aide
The Safari Experiences Camp Aide will support San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance's vision of creating a world where all life thrives, by supporting the department's premium experiences throughout the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The Camp Aide ensures the operations and maintenance of the Roar & Snore overnight camping program, efficiently provides great guest service, and shares general information and answers questions regarding the Safari Park and the Roar & Snore program. This position reports to the Safari Experiences Supervisor.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Cleans, maintains and prepares campsite for guest arrival (including tents, picnic areas & walkways)
Prepares tents for campers
Repair tents or damages if needed
Assists with guest check in, check out and transportation of luggage
Showcase SDZWA as a conservation leader by presenting a positive, friendly and outgoing image
Answer questions and assist with any concerns or problems
Pick up and delivery luggage, driving to and from camp
Haul firewood and stock campsite
Set up and rebuild tents when necessary
Operate electrical carts and motor vehicles as needed
Assist Walking Tour Guides with activities during Roar & Snore Program
Follows all safety standards and reports issues in a timely manner
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR The Camp Aide role primarily works within the Roar & Snore program, as well as the Butterfly Jungle promotion by providing operational support and customer service. The ideal candidate will provide excellent guest service, is dedicated to teamwork, and can work independently within a fast‑paced and manually intensive environment. Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, including rain, extreme heat, and cold, is required. Schedule availability of at least 4 days a week, including both weekend days, is highly desirable. Roar & Snore shifts include late evening and early morning shifts.
JOB EXPERIENCE
Must be 18 years of age.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of:
Layout of the Safari Park
Wildlife natural history and SDZWA conservation stories
Organizational policies, rules and practices
Ability to:
Communicate clear and concise information to large groups
Operate tour vehicle safely and efficiently
Monitor 2‑way radio and park sounds
Perform duties as outline above
