Responsibilities
Plan and accomplish daily routine of custodial tasks that provide students, staff and public with an environmentally safe, attractive, clean and efficient place.
Respond to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner, representing OCPS positively.
Perform planning and coordination of daily custodial tasks; delegate and monitor tasks for compliance.
Provide training and instruction when weaknesses observed, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other standards.
Daily opening/closing performed: unlock gates, inspect hazards, manage security and lighting systems.
Monitor inventory, order supplies, coordinate equipment service and repair.
Use electrical cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, shampoo machines, high‑speed buffers.
Use appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely per DOE regulations.
Perform cleaning tasks: empty receptacles, wash windows, dust furniture, clean vents, fans, walls.
Perform sanitizing tasks in restrooms, kitchen, cafeteria.
Convey physically demanding tasks: mopping, stripping, waxing, floor buffing.
Respond to emergency situations: spills, broken windows/locks.
Move furniture and equipment as needed.
Clean equipment and tools after use, maintain storage order; report malfunctions.
Perform routine maintenance on equipment: belt, bag, pad changes.
Assist general maintenance: change bulbs, fill dispensers, set up meetings.
Lead custodial crews in major projects such as seasonal prep or floor stripping/waxing.
Stay current with technology used by OCPS, attend trainings as needed.
Maintain timely and accurate information as part of responsibilities.
Marginal Functions
Perform related duties as directed.
Minimum Training And Experience
High school diploma or GED, plus up to two years of custodial experience with demonstration of leadership abilities; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must obtain Custodian certification issued by the Florida School Plant Management Association within one year.
Must successfully complete the Industrial Physical Capability Screening (IPCS) if newly hired.
Performance Aptitudes
Data Utilization: Ability to review, classify, prioritize, and analyze data.
Human Interaction: Leadership, guidance, and interpretation to others.
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Operating custodial equipment.
Verbal Aptitude: Use of various data and advisory content.
Mathematical Aptitude: Perform basic arithmetic.
Functional Reasoning: Apply principles, interpret instructions.
Situational Reasoning: Judgement and decisiveness in evaluation of information.
ADA Compliance Physical ability: Exert heavy effort, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, lifting 20‑100 lbs.
Sensory: perception of odors, depths, oral communication, visual discrimination.
Environmental: exposure to strong odors, fumes, dust, moisture, vibration, temperature extremes, toxins.
