A Brief Overview Responsible for specific patient care activities including pre‑operative skin preparation, transporting, lifting and positioning of patients for surgical procedures, and providing sterile scrub assistance to the surgical team (MD, Assistant, ST, etc.) during a variety of surgical cases in the Operating Room. What You Will Do
Provide assistance pre, intra and post‑surgical procedures.
Assist Surgeon / Registered Nurse in lifting, positioning, transferring and caring for sedated/anesthetized pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in the OR.
Perform pre‑operative skin preparation and skin scrub as assigned outside of the OR on pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Perform miscellaneous duties.
Participate in CIP, quality improvement and evaluation activities and implement measures to ensure hospital, JCAHO, and other quality standards are met.
Maintain principles of aseptic technique according to hospital policy and procedure and AORN standards.
Recognize and respond appropriately to environmental safety factors.
Education Qualifications
No education required.
Experience Qualifications
Cleaning/transport attendant, SPD or anesthesia tech experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of operating room environment.
Knowledge of aseptic technique.
Ability to read and follow simple written instructions learned through completion of high school or equivalent.
Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English with minimal mental application while performing repetitive tasks.
Ability to organize and complete tasks.
Ability to maintain working relationships with co‑workers.
Prepared by education, training or experience with regard to age‑specific populations including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
HEART SAVER – American Heart Association.

Physical activities may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
Must have good balance and coordination.
Heavy work – exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently.
Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
Ability to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned to custodial, food services, general laborer, etc., or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact.
Exposure to patient body fluids as well as hazardous or poisonous materials.
Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
