Helmstead Farm is a 3-acre certified organic vegetable and cut flower farm in Washington Depot, CT. We are seeking hardworking, reliable, and enthusiastic individuals to join our team for the 2026 season. We are dedicated to sustainable, food‑safe growing practices to deliver high-quality produce and cut flowers to a weekly farmers' market, local groceries, and food banks.
Job description Farm Team Members assist with day‑to‑day operations across the farm. This role is hands‑on, fast‑paced, and ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and contributing to a meaningful mission.
Responsibilities
Field work including planting, weeding, harvesting, and washing/packing produce and flowers
Greenhouse seeding and plant care
Animal care of new chicks
Weekly farmers' market preparation and participation
General farm maintenance (irrigation setup, cleaning, organizing, light repairs)
Operating small tools and equipment (training provided)
Requirements
Ability to lift 40‑50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather
Willingness to learn, take direction, and work both independently and as part of a team
A positive attitude and strong work ethic
Reliability and punctuality
Prior farm experience is helpful but not required – we’re happy to train the right person
Preferred qualifications (not required)
Experience with vegetable production, livestock, or greenhouse work
Comfort using farm tools and machinery (e.g., BCS, hand tools, tractors)
Interest in sustainable agriculture, local food systems, or long‑term farm work
Compensation and benefits
Hourly wage: $20–$25 per hour, DOE
Farm produce and discounts
Training and skill development in sustainable farming
Opportunity for increased responsibility and advancement for returning team members
Schedule
Flexible scheduling available
Seasonal role (March – November) and year‑round positions depending on farm needs
