Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, organize and lead regular, middle school youth group gatherings that are engaging, age-appropriate, and designed to build community and fellowship among our parish middle-schoolers, in accordance with the “Clear Path” mission of our pastoral plan.

Assemble, oversee, and actively develop a core team of volunteers to help plan, prepare, and lead dynamic youth nights for our middle school youth. This team should be a living example of authentic Catholic Christian life.

Ensure adults 19 years of age and older who would like to work or volunteer with youth receive Safe Environment Training.

Keep open lines of communication between staff, parents, youth, and parishioners regarding middle school ministry.

Promote events through bulletin articles, bulletin boards, flyers, e‑mails, social media outlets, parish website, etc.

Collaborate with the Religious Education team, attend meetings, and events as requested by the Director.

Collaborate with parish staff to support sacramental preparation and faith formation initiatives.

Coordinate service opportunities for middle school youth.

Encourage youth participation in parish life and liturgical celebrations.

Maintain necessary paperwork for middle school ministry functions, including promotional materials, permission slips, and volunteer forms.

Schedule classroom visits with administration as needed during school hours and during Religious Education to promote middle‑school youth ministry.

Be available to meet with, pray with, and listen to middle school children and/or their families on an as‑needed basis.

Be available to the Archdiocese of Omaha and area youth ministers as needed to offer input and support, and to network.

Research areas of innovation for ministry on a national and local level that fit into the mission of the parish and help build the vitality of our middle school youth.

Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.

Strong knowledge of Catholic teachings and a desire to share the faith with young people.

Experience working with middle school‑aged youth (education, ministry, or related field) with a high level of understanding of relational ministry and ministry of presence.

Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Ability to recruit volunteers, lead a collaborative team, and delegate responsibilities.

Ability to develop, lead and facilitate youth programs.

Maintain a provided budget.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs.

Education and Experience

Required Education: B.A. in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, or related field preferred; or Certificate in Youth Ministry; or equivalent service or experience.

Hours of Work: The Coordinator of Middle School Youth Ministry will be expected to work 20 hours per week. Work hours will include some evenings and weekends, as well as some normal parish office hours. Scheduling hours is flexible and may be agreed upon by both the employee and the Director.
