Position Summary:
Kent County Parks & Recreation is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic individual to serve as the Day Camp Director for our summer Day Camp Program (ages 6-10). This position requires a strong background in child development, camp management, and program design, as well as excellent leadership and communication skills.
The Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the nine-week camp, ensuring the safety and well-being of campers, and fostering a positive environment for both staff and participants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and implement a nine-week camp structure, including daily lesson plans, special activities, and program goals.
Coordinate field trips, clubs, special events, and presentations.
Manage and monitor swimming schedules and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations for Camp Counselors.
Ensure compliance with all camp regulations and operating standards, including those required by the Department of Health.
Maintain professional communication with parents, staff, and campers, resolving conflicts as needed.
Order and organize supplies for arts and crafts and other activities.
Position Requirements:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Extensive experience working with children and demonstrated knowledge of camp program development and management.
Exceptional communication, leadership, and conflict‑resolution skills.
Availability for the full camp schedule, including orientation (mid‑June to mid‑August).
Current First Aid and CPR certification (can be obtained during orientation).
Valid driver’s license with a clean three‑year driving record.
Professional demeanor and character attributes befitting a public‑facing position.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds.
Light cleaning, driving, and actively engaging in indoor/outdoor recreational activities with participants.
