Posting Details Salary: $37,838 - $50,848 Hourly: $18.19 - $24.45 Position eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive

Job Summary This series provides and preserves a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, serving the public courteously, considerately, and promptly. Note: Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications listed below.

Job Duties

Highway Operations Worker (Grade 14, $18.19/hr)

– Entry-level duties include operating motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care and preservation, landscape care, roadside shoulder restoration, signing and striping, delivery of equipment, environmental compliance, and vehicle care.

Highway Operations Tech 1 (Grade 17, $20.46/hr)

– Apprentice level, trained to perform advanced duties such as those above.

Highway Operations Tech 2 (Grade 18, $22.45/hr)

– Intermediate level with scheduling, assigning, supervising subordinates, inspecting work, training, and guiding staff.

Highway Operations Tech 3 (Grade 19, $24.44/hr)

– Senior level with full supervisory responsibilities and advanced operational duties.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Highway Operations Worker

– 6 months roadway/highway experience needed.

Highway Operations Tech 1

– 1 year roadway/highway experience needed.

Highway Operations Tech 2

– 2 years roadway/highway experience needed.

Highway Operations Tech 3

– 3 years roadway/highway experience needed.

Selective Preference(s)

Highway Operations Worker: Must obtain an Arizona CDL Class A permit within 90 days and a Class A CDL within 6 months.

Tech 1-3: Must hold an Arizona Class A CDL (manual or automatic) with a (N) tanker endorsement; additional endorsements may be required.

Pre-Employment Requirements

FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse registration required for all CDL holders.

Respond to emergency callouts 24/7; must reach maintenance yard within 30 minutes.

Work can involve extreme temperatures, rugged terrain, high‑speed traffic.

Must lift/carry or push/pull 50 lbs.

Must possess a valid, current driver’s license and complete all required training and safety checks.

Must maintain acceptable driving records; if driving personally owned vehicle, maintain statutory liability insurance.

All new hires must pass the E‑Verify Employment Eligibility Verification Program.
