This series preserves a safe transportation system and serves the public with courtesy, consideration, and promptness. Positions are assigned based on experience and qualifications listed below. Duties
Highway Operations Worker:
Entry‑level responsibility for operating motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care, landscape care, roadside repairs, signing and striping, equipment delivery, environmental compliance, and vehicle/equipment care. Highway Operations Tech 1:
Apprentice level focusing on advanced duties and training on motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement maintenance, and roadside operations. Highway Operations Tech 2:
Intermediate level leading responsibilities in scheduling, supervision, inspection, training, and guidance of staff. Highway Operations Tech 3:
Full journey level with supervisory duties and broad scope of high‑level highway operations. Qualifications
Highway Operations Worker:
6 months of roadway/highway experience, including motorized vehicle operation, signing/striping, pavement care, road operations, tunnel maintenance, or landscape care. Highway Operations Tech 1:
1 year of roadway/highway experience covering the areas listed above. Highway Operations Tech 2:
2 years of roadway/highway experience covering the areas listed above. Highway Operations Tech 3:
3 years of roadway/highway experience covering the areas listed above. Selection Preferences
Highway Operations Worker:
Must obtain an Arizona CDL (Class “A”) permit within 90 days of hire and an Arizona Class “A” CDL within 6 months. Highway Operations Tech 1‑3:
Must hold an Arizona Class “A” CDL (manual or automatic transmission) with a (N) tanker endorsement before the start date; additional endorsements may apply. Pre‑Employment Requirements
Register with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Must respond to emergency call outs 24/7; can reach the Maintenance yard within 30 minutes. May encounter extremes of temperature, rugged terrain, and high‑speed traffic conditions. Lift/carry, push/pull 50 lbs. Maintain a current, valid, unrevoked, and un‑suspended Class‑appropriate driver’s license and meet all driver training requirements. Employees who drive on State business are subject to driver‑license record checks and must maintain acceptable driving records. All newly hired State employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify). Compensation
Salary: $37,838 – $50,848 per year (grades 14–19). Hourly: $18.19 – $24.44. Eligible for a $4,000 hiring incentive. Benefits
