The role involves assisting in the operation of packaging equipment, inspecting product, filling feed trays, assembling boxes, packing product into cases, and stacking filled cases on pallets for shipping. The position may be rotated on all lines within the department.
Responsibilities SAFETY
Maintains highest standard of safety for all functions on an ongoing basis and ensures compliance for self and others to OSHA standards.
Performs daily inspection of all PPE required including but not limited to slip‑resistant/steel‑toed shoes, safety glasses, gloves, shields and aprons to ensure good overall condition of items that provide optimal personal safety and protection while working in the facility.
Successfully acquires and maintains Lock Out‑Tag Out Certification for machine and safely performs all functions in accordance to OHSA and company requirements and standards.
Performs proper housekeeping and uses appropriate personal protective equipment for tasks.
Performs daily inspection of equipment and supplies with proper documentation.
Quality
Maintains company standards for cleanliness, food and equipment safety and efficient productivity.
Performs all required inspections of products and packaging per specification with proper documentation and ensures compliance with company quality standards, including but not limited to: no packets in registration and within weight control; inspects filled containers, labels & packaging.
Ensures compliance to quality, food safety and HAACP support programs and assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
Teamwork
Effectively communicates verbally and written with team members and management.
Works respectfully with all team members to ensure the safety, quality, production and support of our products and goals on a daily basis.
Actively participates in department/shift/team meetings and is involved with suggestions of improvement/resolutions.
Functions
Practices integrity, respect, accountability, continuous improvement and positive interactions with all team members and visitors.
Records all information as required.
Assists in setting up machine prior to shift start‑up.
Ensures a proper supply of materials for tapers, fillers, box makers, labelers, cup supply remains filled and other packing equipment.
Assembles boxes/cases for packing product(s) as needed and packs finished product into cases.
Visually inspects product for quality defects and removes defective product.
Performs duties on all lines in packaging as necessary.
Assists in operation of packaging machine/equipment in accordance with safety standards, specifications and instruction.
Provides training for others when necessary.
Ensures packaging materials are correct, in specification and properly positioned in the machine and changes materials as needed.
Monitors and may adjust weight control of packaged units and ensures codes are accurate and correct in format.
Maintains standard production quantities/rates for each product to ensure continuous production.
Replenishes packaging supplies such as film, boxes, cartons, glue, ink or labels.
Monitors machine operation to detect malfunctions; may make minor adjustments/repairs; communicates mechanical problems to maintenance.
Mounts supplies on spindles or places supplies in hoppers or other feeding devices.
Coordinates information and equipment with machine operator and utility positions to prior and next shift leads & operators and other department.
Fills in for and assists machine operators and utilities when necessary.
Regular attendance is required in accordance with company attendance policy and procedures.
Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned by machine operator, lead and management.
Qualifications
Prior experience in a manufacturing environment requiring repetitive work preferred.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively – verbally & written – and work well with team members and management.
Basic mechanical aptitude and good math skills are helpful.
Ability to read & interpret written & verbal direction while working in a safe, effective & productive manner within a fast paced environment.
Minimum of High School Diploma or GED required.
Working Conditions / Environment Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, read and comprehend; sit, stand, walk, reach, lift, grasp, climb and bend while working in a fast‑paced production environment. Must be able to push/pull 150 pounds short distances; lifting of up to 75 pounds repetitively. Standing required for up to 12‑hour shifts with regular breaks. May be required to work overtime and/or weekends as needed. The employee is regularly exposed to heat, fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, moving parts/equipment and non‑toxic industrial waste and scrap. The noise level in the plant is loud. Slip‑resistant/steel‑toed shoes, earplugs, safety glasses, hairnets, beard nets (if facial hair exists) are required to be worn/used in accordance with company GMP and safety standards. Condition of these items must be inspected by employee daily and be replaced when no longer providing the optimal protection of the employee.
