Shipping & Receiving Clerk

Pay:

$15 per hour

Schedule:

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Location:

Virginia Beach, VA

Position Summary The Shipping & Receiving Clerk will perform the full range of shipping, receiving, order picking, and document control duties required to accurately and efficiently fulfill customer orders. This position requires attention to detail, knowledge of shipping procedures, and the ability to work with shipping software and material handling equipment. Forklift experience is desired.

Responsibilities

Verify and maintain records of incoming and outgoing shipments

Prepare items for shipment, ensuring accuracy and proper packaging

Compare identifying information, counts, weights, and measurements against bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records

Determine the appropriate method of shipment using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates

Select appropriate carriers and process shipments using shipping software (LTL and small package carriers)

Affix shipping labels or stencil shipping information on cartons

Assemble wooden or cardboard containers or select preassembled containers

Insert items into containers using spacers, fillers, and protective padding

Post shipment weights and shipping charges and affix postage as required

Unpack and inspect incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and coordinate with shippers to resolve issues

Route materials to the appropriate departments

Inspect outgoing shipments to ensure they meet specifications

Maintain inventory of shipping supplies and materialsDirect others in preparing outgoing shipments and receiving incoming shipments as needed

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required

Minimum of one (1) year of factory or warehouse experience in shipping and receiving

Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

Experience with UPS/FedEx online shipping software preferred

Ability to complete bills of lading and understand required freight documentation

Familiarity with major freight carriers and shipping forms

Ability to interpret packing slips, enter accurate data into computer systems, and acknowledge receipt into purchasing or processing databases

Ability to estimate shipment weight and calculate shipping costs

Knowledge of proper packaging methods and ability to interpret visual packaging instructions

Familiarity with common material handling equipment

Forklift experience preferred; licensed forklift operator a plus

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, move, and handle materials in a warehouse environment

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift

Pay Details:

$15.00 per hour
