Role description Arcadis is seeking an experienced Environmental Permitting Project Manager to support and continue to grow our expanding business in the Western U.S. with a focus on power and energy sectors. Candidates must have experience preparing environmental documents and reports, including technical reports, National Environmental Policy Act documents, and permit applications.

The successful candidate will be engaged in both client development, through the management and growth of new and existing client relationships, and in project delivery.

Role accountabilities As a Senior Ecologist/Environmental Permitting Project Manager you will manage the life cycle of environmental permitting projects. Responsibilities include:

Leading proposal scope and cost development

Managing project budgets, schedules, and risk

Coordinating with clients and regulatory agencies

Leading technical delivery and providing senior review of client deliverables

Providing permitting strategies and guidance to clients and internal teams

Required technical expertise in botany, ecology, environmental science (or a related field) and experience with the Clean Water Act (CWA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), FERC regulations, ESA, and knowledge of BLM, USFS, and relevant state agencies in the western U.S.

In addition to project delivery responsibilities, you will support and/or manage the growth of new and existing client relationships together with business development and account leaders. This includes leveraging existing client relationships, supporting client account teams, and leading pursuits and proposal opportunities, including scope and cost development.

Work collaboratively with a diverse team and balance varying priorities. Arcadis offers a flexible, hybrid work structure. The role requires remote and office work as needed and may involve up to 25% travel.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related environmental discipline

10+ years total experience in the environmental consulting industry (equivalent experience with environmental agencies and commercial entities may be considered)

At least 4 years managing environmental permitting projects, technical teams, schedules/budgets, and delivery of high‑quality work products

Demonstrated experience leading teams and collaborating with biologists, cultural resource specialists, planners, and other specialists to develop high‑quality project documents

Experience coordinating with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies in the Western U.S. related to power and energy projects, including USFS, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, BLM, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and state agencies

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in planning, geography, environmental management, or a related field

At least 4 years leading project pursuits, including client communication and preparation of scopes, schedules, and cost estimates

Experience supporting and/or managing client development, identifying opportunities, and maintaining client relationships

Specific technical expertise with planning and local permitting in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and/or Nevada

Salary range: $97,600 – $146,400. Actual salaries vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
