Job Overview *The 14-day in-house notice is incorporated in this job announcement. The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Fire Inspector I in the Department of Building and Fire Safety/DSC. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status.

Under general supervision, performs entry level fire inspection work including conducting general inspections, enforcing codes, and providing information to the public; and performs related duties as assigned.

This classification is distinguished as being the first in the Fire Inspector series and the Fire Inspector II performs a variety of complex and specialized work that requires additional certifications and experience.

Incumbents may be eligible to non‑competitively advance to Fire Inspector II when they are certified as a Fire Inspector II and all requirements of the Fire Inspector II position have been met and verified.

Important Notes PLEASE NOTE: This job announcement is for the Fire Inspector I position. Candidates interested in receiving consideration for both the Fire Inspector I and Fire Inspector II vacancy must apply for each position separately via the respective job bulletin. Candidates who apply for and are invited to move forward will undergo the same assessment process and interview only once; scores earned will apply to both recruitments.

NOTE TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES: Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full‑time non‑probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.

Probationary full‑time, part‑time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full‑time non‑probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

Salary and Benefits

Work‑Life Balance

Four (4)-Day, 38 hour workweek (Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday)

May be required to work an alternative or flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or the equivalent.

Two (2) years of experience conducting fire code inspections and/or conducting plan examinations or drafting.

Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered.

Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483.

Must obtain and maintain certification as a Fire Inspector I from the International Code Council (ICC) within twelve (12) months of hire.

Must obtain certification as a Fire Inspector II from the International Code Council (ICC) within two (2) years of hire.

Incumbents may be eligible to non‑competitively advance to Fire Inspector II when all the requirements of the Fire Inspector II position have been met and verified.

Employee will be expected to complete assigned training courses through the City of Henderson's learning management system.

All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by state and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained at incumbent’s expense.

Employee must obtain and maintain certificates and licenses for the position in good standing as a condition of continued employment.

The assessment and selection process for this position will take place on the dates listed above. All candidates who wish to be considered for this position will need to be in Henderson, Nevada, and make themselves available to participate in the testing process at any time on any of the dates listed above.

The selection process will begin with an employment application package screening, with the best‑qualified candidates being invited to participate further in the assessment process. This process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
