The City of Van Buren Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Certification may be accepted from any state.

Starting pay for certified officers is $47,851.20 annually plus medical, dental, vision, life and retirement benefits and will begin receiving incentive pay after one year of employment.

Certified Police Officers with five (5) or more years of continuous employment with a qualifying agency will be considered to begin employment at the rank of Corporal with starting pay of $51,112.56 annually plus medical, dental, vision, life and retirement benefits and will begin receiving incentive pay after one year of employment.

Police Officers may also receive incentive pay up to $1,500.00 a year for college hours, up to $900.00 for secondary languages, longevity pay, up to $1,800.00 a year for CLEST certificates, and up to $4,500.00 for an incentive bonus. (Arkansas Commission of Law Enforcement and Training) as well as incentive pay for Field Training Officers per shift after one year of employment

The Civil Service exam will be administered at the Crawford County Adult Education Center located at 301 Mount Vista Boulevard

only. You may contact the Crawford County Adult Education Center directly at (479)471-0019. Dates of the exam will be February 9 – February 14, 2026. All Civil Service exams must be completed during this period.

The physical agility test will be given at the Van Buren Police Department

appointment

only on February 7, 2026. Appointments can be made by calling (479)689-0078. Applicants must submit their application and waiver prior to taking the physical agility test. The waiver is included with the application and must be signed and notarized before it is submitted to the police department. A layout of the physical agility course can be found on the Van Buren Police Department website.

Applicants must be a US Citizen with no disqualifying convictions, possess a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license. Vision may be no worse than 20/100 correctible to 20/20.

Upon successfully passing the written Civil Service examination, physical agility test, integrity interview, background investigation and a police review board the Civil Service Commission will certify the list of applicants. The Chief of Police will have the discretion of offering employment as staffing requirements deem necessary. Applicants who are offered conditional employment will be required to successfully pass, a physical examination, a psychological examination, drug screen, and polygraph to meet employment requirements.
