Public Programs, a division of NYC Parks will operate a ‘Summer Sports Experience’ program at 5 locations. NYC Parks Summer Sports Experience will offer children ages 6 – 13 opportunities to participate in sports, fitness and outdoor adventure within the Parks. During this fun-filled summer program children will learn to play multiple sports including but not limited to Football, Basketball, Softball, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee and Volleyball.

Major Responsibilities

Applicant should have experience in coaching, and/or playing multiple sports, and must feel comfortable teaching skills to youth participants.

Organize and implement group or team games, tournaments, multi-game events and other formal competitive activities.

Develop various curricula to meet facility needs, facilitate skill development among participants/staff and evaluate outcomes and objectives during and after program implementation.

Demonstrate good oral communication skills, be able to take and give direction, and create and facilitate lesson plans for event management.

Document and report accurate records of attendance, incidents and injuries.

Maintain the health and safety of children under your supervision.

Ensure proper health and safety standards of areas utilized by children.

Inspect play areas and report evidences of unsafe or hazardous conditions and remove children from such areas.

Cordon off or remove hazardous equipment before allowing children to resume activities.

Uphold discipline and prevent disturbances within the recreational area.

Applicants must be able to work both independently and in groups.

Applicants must be willing to travel via public transportation throughout New York City.

Qualification Requirements

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership;

Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” above.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Experience coaching, sports and fitness.

CPR/First Aid certified- trained within one year.
