Job Overview Aurex Defense is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Lead Mechanical Technician to oversee mechanical assembly, fabrication, and shop floor operations for next-generation spacecraft, aircraft, and robotic systems. This leadership role combines advanced technical expertise in precision mechanical assembly with supervisory responsibilities to ensure high‑quality production, efficient workflows, and a safe, organized manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

Lead and perform precision mechanical assemblies, integration of subassemblies, and final system builds for flight hardware and prototypes

Develop, maintain, and enforce detailed assembly procedures, work instructions, and operating procedures

Manage shop floor operations, including tool calibration, equipment maintenance, and 5S/cleanliness standards

Supervise and train technicians in proper assembly techniques, safety protocols, and quality standards

Coordinate shipping and receiving of components, hardware, and finished systems, ensuring proper documentation and packaging for flight‑critical items

Maintain accurate inventory control, including parts tracking, kitting, and stock replenishment

Perform quality inspections and ensure compliance with engineering drawings, tolerances, and industry standards (e.g., AS9100, IPC)

Identify process improvements, resolve production issues, and implement corrective actions

Collaborate with mechanical engineers, production managers, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to meet project schedules and deliverables

Qualifications

Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance

Work in person at our corporate headquarters in Huntsville AL

Associate’s degree in Mechanical Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field (or equivalent technical certification) with significant hands‑on industry experience

High school diploma or GED with 8+ years of progressive experience in precision mechanical assembly and fabrication

5+ years of hands‑on experience in mechanical assembly and fabrication, preferably in aerospace, defense, or high‑reliability manufacturing

Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a shop floor or production environment

Strong proficiency reading and interpreting complex mechanical drawings, GD&T, and bills of materials

Experience developing and documenting work instructions and assembly procedures

Demonstrated knowledge of inventory management systems and shipping/receiving processes

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with flight hardware assembly for spacecraft, aircraft, or unmanned systems

Familiarity with CNC machining, 3D printing, composite layup, and precision metrology tools

Certification in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or 5S methodologies

Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems for inventory and production tracking

Experience maintaining cleanroom or controlled‑environment assembly areas

How You Will Be Rewarded the salary range for this role is $100,000-$120,000 annually. We offer a comprehensive total rewards approach to compensation, providing incentives and benefits that extend far beyond the base salary.
