Position Summary Mechanic 1 - Provides assistance in the maintenance of the infrastructure systems; provides maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services on all of the University's heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.

Work schedule:

Tuesday - Thursday, 11:00 am - 7:30 pm; Friday and Saturday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Position Responsibilities

Understand equipment and its use

Read and understand blueprints and schematic drawings

Assist with shutdowns of selected utility systems to coordinate with maintenance and construction activities

Perform service calls for occupants throughout the campus

Oversee trainees

Perform daily inspections of utility systems in assigned areas of the campus

Perform other job‑related duties as required

Experience & Educational Background

High School and a related Trade School diploma

A minimum of 3 years of related experience is required

Skills & Competencies

Capable of lifting, pushing, and carrying various heavy tools, equipment, and materials

Climb, balance, kneel, stoop, or crouch to gain access to pipes, valves, and equipment

Ability to use hand and power tools

Must adhere to operational safety rules and regulations as deemed by the University

Must be able to follow directives and possess good communication skills, and the ability to interact with building/office occupants effectively

Must be able to provide coverage on weekends and emergencies, including severe weather emergencies

Mechanical aptitude in servicing HVAC and building equipment

Knowledge of proper and improper operation of heating and cooling systems and their components

Competence to start and stop various systems

Knowledge of chemical treatment procedures and testing

Knowledge of boilers and associated equipment

Salary Range Grade 3

1199 New Hire rate

: $36.20 and

1199 One Year of Service rate

: $36.93
