Service Technician 1 Trainee
Location: Portland, ME
Summit is a natural gas utility providing safe, reliable and clean burning natural gas service to homes and businesses in Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Position Summary Service Technicians are responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service while performing skilled work that includes installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas distribution facilities.
The role involves manual labor, customer interaction, and serving as a first responder during emergencies.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Initiate gas service, perform leak investigations, and make repairs
Locate gas lines
Read gas meters
Conduct load surveys
Complete work order system documentation
Serve as first responder in emergency situations
Perform other duties as assigned
Education And Work Experience
High school diploma or GED
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Proficient with personal computers and software including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
Possess a valid state driver’s license with a good driving record and the ability to operate company vehicles safely
Gain and apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations
Demonstrate aptitude for basic mechanical tasks and use proper tools for tasks such as installing and reading pressure gauges, voltage meters, pipe locators, repairing service lines, performing bar tests, and classifying underground leaks
Respond to customers with courtesy and knowledge, in person and by telephone, applying good judgment and customer service skills
Possess effective oral and written communication skills
Manage multiple tasks, projects, or activities through completion
Adapt quickly and respond well to changing priorities
Work well independently and in a team-based environment to accomplish assignments and achieve objectives
Commit to compliance with applicable laws and regulations and company policies, completing all required training courses in a timely manner
Adhere to the company’s values and business practices consistently
Position is covered under D.O.T. regulations and the Summit Utilities Drug and Alcohol Policy, including random testing
