Mining Equipment Operator
Location: Ochlocknee, Georgia
Department: Mining
Reports To: Mining Supervisor
Job Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator utilizes a variety of heavy equipment—including scrapers, dozers, excavators, mine haul trucks and backhoes—to mine and transport clay. Responsibilities include recording material quantities and equipment operating hours, lubricating and maintaining equipment, keeping work areas clean, and following all safety rules and regulations. Operators work independently with limited supervision, participate in improvement activities, and support company goals and values.
Essential Functions
Operate heavy equipment safely.
Record quantity of material mined and equipment operating hours.
Lubricate and perform routine maintenance of equipment.
Keep areas clean and free of clutter.
Follow all safety rules and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Mine raw material at the mine using heavy equipment.
Count and record amount of raw material transported to various locations.
Service and operate mine equipment such as haul trucks, backhoe, excavator, tractor, bulldozer, and road grader.
Service forklifts, line trucks, and heavy‑duty equipment.
Track and file daily inspection forms.
Work independently with limited supervision.
Act in accordance with WE CARE.
Participate in improvement activities.
Other actions as needed to satisfy company goals, processes, and procedures and uphold values inherent to Oil‑Dri.
May require a valid commercial driver’s license.
Demonstrate ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
Read mine maps as necessary.
Experience
Must meet Oil‑Dri assessment requirements.
Valid Commercial Driver’s License Desired.
Read, comprehend, and act on product specifications, SOPs, PWI, AIQ processes, and similar documents.
Receive training and operate mine equipment (dozers, excavators, water wagon, ore haul trucks, scraper, grader).
Work with Plant Maintenance personnel to learn maintenance skills.
Previous experience with heavy‑duty equipment operation.
Demonstrated detail‑oriented work.
Maintenance background helpful.
Work safely.
Good communication skills.
Physical endurance for geared equipment operation and heavy labor.
Walk and work on uneven, rocky, or sloped terrain.
Climb ladders, stairs, and inclines while carrying tools.
Lift 50 pounds frequently.
Hear radio communications.
Function in the role while wearing appropriate PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, dust mask, protective coveralls, etc.).
Meet all physical requirements of the position.
Hire Rate $25.21
