Job Summary The WebstaurantStore In Hagerstown, MD is looking for a hands‑on, people‑first leader to join our team as an Inventory Control Assistant Manager (1B Shift). You will assist the Inventory Control Manager and lead the charge over our IC department, overseeing key functions such as cycle counting, replenishment, expediting, product placement, and maximizing cubic efficiency while holding others accountable to proper inventory practices. You’ll work side by side with leadership across departments and shifts to ensure processes align with SOPs, issues are solved quickly, and operational goals are met with excellence.
You’ll also play a critical role in building and developing a high‑performing inventory control team. You’ll guide your team to spot discrepancies early, solve problems quickly, and ensure accuracy across the entire site. A sharp eye for detail, time‑management skills, and the ability to lead by example will help create a culture rooted in ownership and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Assist with day‑to‑day operations of Inventory Control, including facilitating customer re‑shipment requests, removing roadblocks for our shipping department, acting as Quality Assurance for all other departments, and maximizing cubic efficiency within the DC.
Train, coach, develop and hold accountable up to X employees to achieve operational metrics and satisfy the needs of the distribution center.
Prepare the facility for new inventory, collaborating with the facilities department to manipulate storage racking and eliminate dead stock.
Maintain a high degree of inventory accuracy, complying with company policies such as Cycle Counts and Audits.
Establish and maintain a collaborative relationship with procurement, with an emphasis on communication.
Ensure the quality of receiving, stocking, and shipping processes through analysis and development of current/new operational strategies. Provide comprehensive training to inventory personnel on issue resolution and effective communication.
Generate reporting to improve the accuracy of inventory throughout each department, initiate and oversee projects once problems have been identified.
Ensure the proper rotation of food products within the facility, issue accountability for mistakes, and communicate with procurement if an issue is identified.
Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly metrics for the receiving department; identify and resolve operating issues as needed.
Provide clear and frequent communication to all teams regarding company policies and procedures.
Lead weekly and monthly meetings to share information, including metrics review, areas of improvement, employee relations issues, and provide updates on ongoing initiatives and related projects.
Assist in analyzing opportunities for improvement, including productivity growth, cost reduction, damage mitigation, and increased process efficiency.
People
Ensure timely completion of all employee performance reviews and provide frequent constructive feedback to all team members.
Interact with employees regularly to promote a high level of engagement and ensure all safety regulations are followed.
Promptly complete all admin duties relating to employee management to the expected standard.
Leadership
Collaborate with the leadership team within the building to meet the needs of the DC and foster a team mentality.
Work with the Inventory Control Manager and Team Leads to create development plans for employees to generate engagement and a leadership bench, focusing on Team Leaders.
Maintain a high level of integrity and honesty, embodying the core values of the company and modeling them for our employees.
Serve as a leader not only for the assigned department but for the entire distribution center, holding peers, managers, and employees accountable to expectations.
Language Skills
Business proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed while standing and/or walking, up to and including 12 hours/day.
Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
Requires the regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
Requires regular bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights, up to 75 lbs.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in operations leadership.
Experience working in a distribution environment preferred.
Education
Associate degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
