Job Summary The Revenue Cycle Department at UT Southwestern Medical Center has an available opportunity for a Coding Supervisor. The successful applicant will work under minimal supervision to supervise coding programs. The primary duties and responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
Initiative‑taking and meticulous
EPIC experience is strongly preferred for this role.
A certification for Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist Physician‑based (CCS‑P), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is highly preferred.
Overseeing critical components of the front‑end revenue cycle coding process; including CD coding denials, CRM, and Credit Inquiries for the departments of Cardiology.
Strong professional coding skills, with a primary focus on Cardiology. A solid understanding of coding and basic knowledge across multiple specialties is highly desirable.
Commitment to a love‑based culture, and the ability to lead a team.

Responsibilities
Team Production and Quality Audit Reviews:
Maintain and track quality and productivity standards for team of coders, optimizing revenue streams and compliance.
Coding Support:
Support and guide the team in their coding concerns to identify, analyze, and resolve encounters for payer release.
Training:
Provide training for new hires and any new communicated coding changes and guidelines when needed, ensuring adherence to payer policy guidelines, and maximizing revenue.
Clinical Coding Denials Management:
Manage the submission, correction of claim edits and follow‑up clinical denials related to coding, ensuring accurate and timely reimbursement.
Patient Account Resolution Inquiries:
CRM reviews to address patient concerns regarding the billing and coding of services rendered.
Credit Refund Inquiries:
Help with efforts to identify, analyze, and resolve credit refund inquiries related to department claims.
Collaboration:
Collaborating with internal teams to address issues and streamline processes and workflows.
Work from Home (WFH):
This is a work from home position. The applicant must live within a one (1) hour radius of Dallas/Fort Worth and be available to come to the office when/if needed. Additional details regarding WFH shall be discussed as part of the interview process.
Shift:
8‑hour flex shift, start between 0500‑0900, Monday through Friday.

1 year experience in a lead capacity
A coding certification or billing/coding diploma may be substituted for 1 year of experience

Job Duties
Supervises all coding specialists which includes hiring, onboarding, performance appraisals and disciplinary action. Coordinates work schedules and tasks for optimal productivity and cross coverage. Assures consistent/annual education training and certification of all staff members.
Performs accurate and timely review, coding and abstracting of UTSW accounts utilizing, ICD‑10‑CM, HCPCS, and CPT code sets as indicated and according to coding team procedures.
Performs coding activities in a manner that meets productivity and quality standards as established by the coding leadership.
Maintains current understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, and coding guidelines and grows knowledge through participation in continuing education programs. Maintains understanding of teaching physician documentation guidelines.
Maintains a thorough understanding of the intricacies of the various types of subspecialties providing care at UTSW so work assignment adjustments can be made with little workflow disruption and coding coverage can be appropriately provided.
Assists in upholding coding team expectations, customer service standards, professionalism, operating procedures, processes and other team strategies and goals. Assist in promoting a culture of support, continuous learning and teamwork. Adheres to all UTSW and departmental policies and procedures to include the Remote Coding Agreement where applicable.
Performs other duties as assigned.
